By the end of this post, you just might begin calling your backyard your new blog office!
10 Bright Reasons That Will Make You Want To Blog Outside
Before we dive into all things blogging in the most natural of environments let’s take a quick gander into why one would perhaps want to avoid the more common indoor/inside choice of blogging.
Here are 10 quick reasons why blogging inside all the time can be a bad idea
#1
Blogging inside can be bad because…
Inside air can be bad for you.
Indoor air can be super bad for your health especially during winter months when windows and doors are closed up, and the health-harming air is locked inside.
Indoor air pollution can come from anything from the mold in your walls to dander on your pets so be mindful of the conditions you’re breathing in.
#2
Blogging inside can be bad because…
Indoor lighting can be bad for you.
Fluorescent lighting can be rather yucky for your health.
Studies have linked those bright flickering lights with things like:
- Anxiety
- Cancer
- Depression
- Eye strain
- Hormone disruption
- Immune system problems
- Migraines
- Sleep problems
- Weight Gain
Also not getting enough sunlight can harm your sleep cycle.
#3
Blogging inside can be bad because…
The germs indoors can be gross.
Your indoor office might be full of germs.
In fact, some say inside your home might have more issues with bacteria than outside your home.
One place of concern is carpeted areas which are rather hard to sanitize on the regular.
#4
Blogging inside can be bad because…
Inside can be lonely sometimes.
If you ever feel like blogging is a bit isolating, but you also can’t be around people if you’re writing, try going to an outdoor space where you can maybe see others but don’t have to interact with them such as a park or at the beach.
#5
Blogging inside can be bad because…
Staying inside for long periods of time often leads to sitting for long periods of time.
Sitting in the same spot for a long duration is not great for your health.
#6
Blogging inside can be bad because…
Blogging inside all the time can feel like life is all work and no play.
At least if you’re outside, you position yourself to have little unexpected rewards now and then such as a fluttering butterfly or an unexpected rainbow in the sky.
#7
Blogging inside can be bad because…
Blogging indoors might mean you’re also eating where you blog.
Blogging indoors on the regular might mean you’re also working and eating in the same spot which is a dangerous habit in terms of being more tired and getting less done.
Quick tip: Make your eating breaks a real full-on break.
#8
Blogging inside can be bad because…
Working inside your home can be full of temptations to not work on your blog.
If you blog at home staying inside can be super challenging if you have some household chores to do.
Before you know it, working on that recipe for the blog becomes an adventure in cleaning the kitchen.
#9
Blogging inside can be bad because…
Blogging inside might be keeping you from the sun.
People need sunlight. Sunlight helps everything from our sleep cycles to our moods.
Staying indoors all day for blogging makes it challenging to get our much-needed sunshine support.
#10
Blogging inside can be bad because…
Staying inside can mean everything always stays the same.
Your indoor blogging space can foster monotony which can keep you from fresh perspectives and new insights.
If all the problems with working on your blog indoors are bringing you down, don’t worry. Good news is coming!
While choosing to blog inside day-in-and-day-out isn’t necessarily ideal; you don’t have to stay outside 24/7 either.
Just twenty minutes a day spent outside is enough to get your body and mind benefiting from green space so while you needn’t make your full-time blogging office among the rose bushes, you can blog outside some of the time and probably find your overall blogging routine completely more enjoyable and more productive.
Let’s get into the reasons why blogging outside, even for just twenty minutes a day, is such a great idea.

Blog Outside To Be A Stress-Free Blogger
Wow, blogging can be stressful!
There’s always something we can be doing as a blogger to grow our blog, improve our blog, and get people to know about our blog.
One of the things people usually don’t mention in all the “how to start a blog” posts is that when you start a blog, you should also start a de-stressing routine because the stress of blogging can accumulate super quick!
If you find yourself stressing day and night about blogging consider moving your blogging routine outdoors even if for just an hour a week.
Studies show anxiety and depression can be helped by walking in nature so maybe the next time you have a blog problem to solve go for a walk in a place that has more trees than walls, and you might be amazed at how better blogging and life become after your nature walk.
Blog Outside Tip: If you feel like your life overall is too stressed here some ideas on clearing out the clutter of all aspects of life so your stress goes down and your joy goes up!

Blog Outside So Your Blogging Brain Works Better
This might come as no surprise, but nature helps clear your head!
Even studies have shown that cognitive functions such as memory and creative ability improve after some time spent in nature.
If you feel like you’re forgetting your blogging tasks or you don’t have the creative blogging ideas you once had, try blogging outdoors and see what happens!
Blog Outside Tip: One of my favorite ways to blog outside is with the help of my hammock (one of my best buys ever!)! In my backyard, hanging in my hammock, my laptop in my lap and my dogs at my side makes me the best blogger I can be for sure!

Blog Outside To Experience Awe
There’s some pretty cool research out that points to the awesomeness (ha!) of engaging in awe. Yep… awe.
Think about this for a second. When was the last time you experienced awe?
When did you last get goosebumps, have your jaw hang open, or feel like time stood still?
I bet upon remembering that awe moment you also remember a rush of feel-good stuff that you experienced.
Well, research says that awe will bless you with:
- Improved critical and creative thinking
- Better health
- Kindness
- Self-sacrifice
- Cooperation
- Being in the moment
If you feel like you’re blogging is lacking ideas, your health needs some help, that blogging is making you too focused on you, and you’re having a hard time being content in the moment, you might want to take your blogging outdoors and set yourself up for some awe.
Consider this quote by none other than Albert Einstein on the power of awe:
The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom the emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand wrapped in awe, is as good as dead —his eyes are closed.
Blog Outside Tip: This week take your blogging self to an awe-inspiring outdoor location and let the magical awe stuff do its work on you and your blog.

Good news! The thing that might make you fall in love with blogging all over again might be as easy as choosing to blog outside!
There’s evidence that spending time outside means more engagement even once you come back inside!
For example, if you spend a half hour of your blogging time outdoors and then go inside to continue blogging for hours those hours might be much more highly focused, fun, and easy for you because of that time you chose to blog outside even if for a little while.
Blog Outside Tip: Challenge yourself to include some outside time in your blogging routine this week and see if you feel refreshed as a blogger!

Blog Outside To Get Ideas
For some bloggers, the thing holding them back isn’t their writing ability or their marketing skills or even their time management but just the pressure to come up with new ideas all the time.
If you feel stuck and uninspired one of the quickest ways to get a fresh load of ideas is by going outside to blog!
If you drive even 30 minutes away to an outdoor nature spot, plop yourself down and work on your blog you will likely be surprised at how the humming of bees gives you a new rhythm to your blog writing and how the working of the ants starts giving you all kinds of fresh ideas for blog posts on productivity.
Blog Outside Tip: Go on and invest in a great blog tool that will serve you in both your blogging life and your foodie life: An awesome picnic basket! 🙂

Blog Outside So You Don’t Lose Your Vision
As a blogger, seeing matters!
Now you can blog blind, and in fact, there’s not much to stop anyone from becoming an amazing blogger which is one of the great things about blogging!
However, if you do have great vision and you want it to stay the same at the very least, well blogging outside can help you with that!
Apparently, being outside protects your eyes!
Some studies point to the idea that playing outside can have a significant impact on the health of children’s eyes and it probably does some good stuff for us adults too!
Blog Outside Tip: Speaking of eye health, looking at your computer screen all the time isn’t that great. Try to look away from your screen about every 20 minutes while you’re working.

Blog Outside Tip: Aim to go on a nature walk sometime soon! Here are some great hiking guides to get you excited about your restorative nature experience! While you’re hiking, you’ll probably come up with your next great blog post idea!

Blog Outside To Keep Your Blogging Alive
Perhaps unsurprisingly, some research suggests the importance of being in green space because it has been linked to lower incidence of disease which is related to longer lifespan.
In other words, you might be around longer to blog if you spend some more time among the trees.
Whether considering the life of your blog or your life as a blogger, seriously consider how many hours a day and a week and a month you’re spending indoors and think of ways to add some seconds, minutes, and hours surrounded by nature.
Your body and your blog will thank you!
Blog Outside Tip: If you have considered quitting blogging (and a lot of people do!) before you call it quits permanently you may want to consider going on a blog detox and spending a ton of time somewhere green.
